There were two highlights of my day today. The first was seeing the minister who encouraged me to get ordained in the Episcopal Church. I'd not seen him for many years, so it was a complete delight.
The second (you may well find this somewhat bizarre) was the description of a piece of technology by the vice-principal of the venue in which we met. The Barony is an agricultural college. They keep cows and they have a machine which somehow automatically milks them when they want to be milked. I might be getting this wrong, but it seems to work like this:
Food entices the cows into an area and a gate closes behind them. It then sounds like some kind of laser-guided udder-grabbing device latches on to the necessary bits and does the deed. I'm not sure what the cows think about the indignity of this.
I've been trying to work out some alternative uses of this technology. Stewardship was on the agenda today, so perhaps an ecclesiastical variant of this device could be built into church buildings, which could 'milk' the wallets of those attending?
Isn't technology wonderful?
